A Vero Beach man was taken down with a taser after spraying police and a K-9 unit with bear spray. There was a short chase off Old Dixie Highway that did not end well for the perpetrator.

Florida’s first bear hunt in over ten years is still on after a judge rejected an injunction to stop it. The controversial bear hunt could result in as many as 172 bears being killed. The controversy has hunters and conservationists on one side arguing that hunting to keep populations down is a healthy thing to do for the ecosystem, and people against hunting in general on the other side.

Anna Kepner’s death on a cruise ship has been officially declared a homicide. Full information has not yet been released from authorities, but we now have an official cause of death and it seems her step brother is a person of interest in the case.

A recent IRS study shows that Florida is adding a new taxpayer about every two minutes. For contrast, California loses a taxpayer every one minute. New York, Illinois and Massachusetts are bleeding taxpayers at the highest rate, and Florida, Texas and Tennessee are winning the game of attracting taxpayers.

A winning lottery ticket was sold at a Citgo in Gifford. As the son of a math teacher, I hesitated to write anything about this because the lottery is essentially a tax on people who aren’t very good at math, but $30,000 is $30,000 and that’s what the people want to hear about. So here you go.

Airport travel is expected to be the busiest it has been in a long time over the Thanksgiving holiday per the FAA. The good news is the government shutdown ended in time for travel to begin, but be sure to leave yourself some extra time if you are traveling by plane this week.
