
Sometimes you wonder what is going through people’s heads when you read about what they did to get arrested. For example, a woman in Vero Beach called the police and asked them to bring her some drugs. Unsurprisingly, things did not go well for her when the police arrived at her location.

Everybody’s favorite government employees are the zoning enforcement people, right? I’m sure they are lovely people in their home lives, but we don’t think about that when they are issuing us citations or warnings. Here are some common items on the list that could force you to change the landscaping or outdoor structures at your house.

The state of Florida is forcing Vero Beach to complete a “do-over” due to incorrect math in their tax estimates. Embarrassing! Mistakes happen and there’s an easy-ish solution, so it’s not the end of the world. They have to hold another public hearing and run corrected advertisements about the tax increase.

There’s a cold front heading our way starting tonight. Indian River County won’t get the worst of it, but we’ll definitely notice. In our neighboring counties to the north and the west, freezing temperatures are expected. There are some shelters setting up warm places for people to stay if they need them.

Drones are becoming a frequent use tool for local law enforcement. Gone are the days of scrambling an expensive helicopter to assist with law enforcement efforts. Now they can launch drones to accomplish the same thing. The drones are also being used for investigations in ways you might not expect.

The federal government is reopening after an extended shutdown. We stay out of national politics on this newsletter, but this one felt noteworthy because of the ripple effect on our local folks, such as SNAP beneficiaries and those who are frequent flyers.
